AUTIO is a lifestyle lamp, that enables people to take a break from their phone by hiding it inside of the lamp. Lamp works as a speaker and can narrate either a quick / mid-length meditation, or audiobook, or work as a music speaker. It can be set for a night-time routine, where the user is given an hour before the bedtime to read a book or do some other activity, while lamp is dimming down with a complete switch-off in the end. In the morning lamp will wake up the user with alarm, so they won’t need to check their phone first thing in the morning. There is also a charger inside of the lamp, so the user is able to charge their phone while it’s inside.

| IDEATION AND PROTOTYPING |
Understanding the Negative Influences
While technology is a great assistant in our daily live,
it is also a great distraction from our goals and aspirations.
Enable people to achieve their personal goals without distractions from their devices
Initiative to use the product should come from the user, not product
Work for specified (by user) amount of time
Substitute some basic functions that phones perform (clock, music, alarm, timer)
Give positive impression, considered as helper
Feel more physical, than technological
Give feelings of Zen, nature, calm
Easy to set up and operate
A health & wellbeing-conscious person, who is aware of their heavy daily mobile device usage and is looking for ways to minimise it.

A Participatory Mindset
The low-fidelity prototype was enough to be able to visualise a possible future development of the lamp, as well as to run a participatory workshop.
For the participatory workshop we had 4 low-fidelity prototypes on hand to distribute among workshop participants, so everyone had an easy access to the prototype. Workshop was organised in the way that we put participants in the context - by presenting them with an activity and discussing later, if they have ever had a problem of being distracted by the phone from intended activity. Then we presented them with a “product, that can hide their phone inside” and asked them to brainstorm about possible functions this product can have.
"To 'gamify' the experience in some way to stimulate users use the lamp more often."
"To display a reminder like 'We are here to enjoy our time together' for family gatherings."
"The lamp can also read an audiobook, while phone is inside."
When prototype was ready for user testing, we invited 4 participants for individual testing sessions.
User testing session was set up in the way that first we interview user about their experience with meditation and if they ever feel stressed. Then we would invite them to hide their phone in the lamp and do a 5-minute guided meditation, imitating the idea that meditation was played from the lamp. After that we would collect their feedback.
"I'm able to relax, and forget for a while about their hectic schedule."
"Perfect occasion they see for using this lamp is before the bedtime."
"Dimming light helped me with focusing on meditation."
